A nice upgrade from there old deck the the Shanans chose Deckorators Summit Glacier decking paired with Fortress Hammered Bronze top-mount railing, with the railing mounted outside on the steps for a clean, finished look. For this project we preserved the existing stone columns and most of the beams, minimizing demolition and keeping the original character. We replaced the joists with KDAT Pro Wood treated framing for improved stability and durability, and added lag bolts to reinforce the existing ledger board. The stairs feature the StairLock system for a strong, safe, and low-maintenance finish.

The Cook’s Project
This project evolved from a deck update into a full side-yard makeover. The existing steps along the house were unsafe and difficult for the homeowners to use, so we expanded the scope to address the entire area at once. Combining the deck work with a new fence and a concrete retaining wall allowed us to create a cohesive, safer, and more functional outdoor space.
Because Mile High Decks handles decking, hardscape, and fence work in-house, our experienced team managed every phase of the project—design, demolition, Stone retaining wall/concrete retaining wall construction, fence installation, and deck/step reconstruction. The result is a durable, code-compliant circulation path, improved safety and accessibility, and a finished side yard that complements the home’s exterior while solving the homeowners’ everyday challenges for these homeowners while keeping within their budget.
